Thankful Villages

This term was coined by the writer Arthur Mee, in his series The King's England (published in the 1930s). The question should probably have made this distinction, as Wikipedia gives the alternative term 'Blessed Villages' and the (Daily) Telegraph uses the term 'the Fortunate Few Villages' to describe the communities that lost no servicemen or women in either of the two world wars (also known as 'doubly thankful villages').
